Using “NextGen Gallery”

After you’ve created a PAGE for your dog, you’ll want to upload photos. If you only have one or two pics, you can use the photo uploader in the Add New POST or Add New PAGE form.

If you have multiple pictures, you’ll want to create a gallery in NextGEN.

Create a gallery

From the DASHBOARD menu on the left, choose Gallery

Choose Add Gallery/Images

Choose "Add new gallery". You have to create a gallery before you can upload images.

Name your gallery.

Go to the Upload images tab, and choose your gallery from the drop down menu. Click "Select Files"

Browse to the folder where your images are located on your computer. Here, I have made a temporary folder on my desktop called "zappa" to make finding the photos I want to upload easy. Select the photos (shift-click to select all photos, or ctrl-click to select a few) and click on "Open".

Click on "Upload images". You can also click on "Scale images to max width 800px" so you don't end up with monster photos.

Uploading images

Two of my photos hadn't been "optimized". For best results, use a photo editor to make each photo 72 (or 96) pixels per inch, a maximum of 800px wide (399px wide for portrait pics) and save as a jpg file optimized for the web.

Success!! Now click on "Edit gallery"

NextGEN also automatically makes thumbnails.

Here you can give the gallery a title and description, give captions to individual photos, assign the page it will be linked to, make sure the author is correct. I also deleted the two large photos, as they appeared in the list even though the photos hadn't uploaded.

Link the photos to the page on which they will appear. Choose the page you've already made -- but if you haven't made a page yet, you can create one in the "Create new page:" drop down menu.

Add title text, descriptions, and tags, if wanted. These help search engines find and index your photos. Now you're with the gallery!

Navigate to the PAGE or POST edit window.

In the "visual editor" click on the last icon in the top row. This is the NextGEN gallery editor.

Grand Champion Taz

Taz finished the requirements to be a Grand Champion last weekend in Portland, Or. She was handled by Jean Gauchat-Hargis. She qualified for the Eukanuba Invitational show in 2011 and this will also qualify her for 2012 but we aren’t going to Florida. We are pretty much done with conformation and are concentrating on agility for now. Our next trial is March 3, 4 & 5.

Xoey passes cadaver dog test!

Xoey passed her cadaver dog test with NAPWDA — the North America Police Work Dog Association. This is a national organization that tests to LE standards. The test went for 3 days.

Xoey is now Certified Cadaver Dog, NAPWDA.

Fever Jumper’s Run

Here is a super jumpers run from last weekend. I am so happy with this run since it has been very hard for us to Q in this class. Usually one dropped bar (which is a failure) or a handling mistake. Over the summer we have been working on Susan Salo’s jumping program since it was apparent we were missing something. I have seen great improvement on Fever’s take off points and striding in practice and it is evident in this video as well. She looks very balanced and smooth, not launching herself early toward the jumps as in the past. I love the squeaking she does when she wants to GO FASTER!! And right before the tunnel look at her dig in and accelerate! Ground speed is her forte.

She won this large and competitive class with a time of 22.51 seconds on a course time of 42 seconds and 157 yards. That is 6.97 yards per second! It was a super fun course that was flowing and allowed different handling options. I almost chickened out on the long lead out push, but glad I didn’t. This run made my whole weekend and we were one missed Aframe contact away from a QQ.

At the Big Sky Working Dogs (Montana) trial this weekend, Lexi (aka Olexa du Loups du Soleil) took High Tracking (95), High Obedience (90) and low protection (80p) for a 265 for her IPO 2. Vise du Loups du Soleil took High Protection with a 93 p and got his SchH 1 with a nice performance for his handler (Peter DeKok) and Peter’s first ever SchH title! Go Loups du doggies!

There are unfortunately, a lot of twits out there with too much time on their hands who love to hack websites. Any time multiple users are allowed to access a site, it increases the site’s vulnerabilities.
